Almost one year ago, we started this blog to introduce ourselves and The Bead Collection to you.
We've had a lot of fun with it and have gotten to know some wonderful people through the project! This seems a good time to re-introduce ourselves to those of you new to the company and the blog, especially since we have some important activities and changes coming up, and also because we really want to hear from everyone about how we can better address your needs and interests.
This is who we are and what we do --
We are a mother-daughter team, Shannon and Sheila -- working on the still-relatively-new venture of this online business. Our goal is to supply beaders, jewelry designers, and collectors with hard-to-find, distinctive focal beads and pendants, charms, natural stones, crystals and more. We hope we are contributing to your inspiration for your unique creations, as well as making centerpiece ornaments and exceptionally beautiful beads more accessible to you, wherever you may live.
We live and collect primarily in New Mexico, but we are frequently traveling, researching new suppliers, and finding/acquiring the most special things sought by bead-lovers and jewelry designers everywhere. There are so many beading/jewelry supply stores out there that we know you can turn to; we hope our usefulness to you is our specialty in those distinctive, one-of-a-kind delights that most bulk-sale companies don't have time to focus on.
We encourage you to read more about our personal histories and what made us come to love this line of work -- in the original 'About Us' blog post from April, 2012. Here's a bit more detail to add to that background. Shannon came first to the profession through a serendipitous pathway into a study of/work with natural stones, gemology studies and exposure to a variety of beading artists and metalsmiths. I followed in the footsteps of my daughter (this is Sheila, the one writing this particular post) and have only learned a fraction of what Shannon knows about the world of stones, beading and the jewelry business, but I'm hurrying to catch up! My career path led me to the community college world, and I have just retired from that domain after 30 years. I loved that work and hold a special place in my heart for teaching, so that's why I often share educational/informational snippets with you in my posts. And despite the fact that I'm not the true expert in our team, I can at least claim a true passion for this work, as Shannon has, and I really enjoy learning from her and from those of you who have been in the business so much longer. Please don't ever hesitate to comment on our blog posts and share your valuable knowledge and insights with us.
We invite you to give us specific feedback about what new/different things you'd like to see in our Etsy store (http://tinyurl.com/atcs2p3) and in our posts. Our trek to the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show is just weeks away at this point, and we don't want to miss the opportunity to be your eyes and ears there if you can't go. We'll tell you all about it in future posts, and of course will continue to tell you about all the other wonderful venues we encounter. We hope you'll share your stories with us too! Please consider signing up for our e-mail list via this main web site (http://www.thebead.net) so we can hear from you more often.
